postpartum care

The moments and days after birth are some of the most intense and overlooked in all of motherhood. In the homebirth model of care, the postpartum is an extension of the birth itself. A time for restoration, nourishment, and gentle tending to both mother and baby as they integrate their shared journey.

In this module, we’ll explore the art of postpartum care through the lens of physiology, emotional healing, and ancestral tradition. You’ll learn how to create an environment that supports the body’s natural healing processes while protecting the new mother’s nervous system, hormones, and energy.

This module will guide you through:

  • The physiology of the immediate postpartum, including placenta delivery, uterine involution, and hormonal shifts.

  • Practical homebirth recovery care: bleeding, perineal healing, temperature, hydration, and comfort measures.

  • The emotional landscape of the early postpartum period

  • The power of warmth, food, and rest in supporting recovery and milk supply.

  • How to build a postpartum plan rooted in community, nourishment, and non-intervention.

  • Recognizing what’s normal vs. concerning, and when to seek additional support.

  • Ways to be of help as a postpartum doula as well as establishing your role.
